Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) and The Korea Times, a South Korean English daily, clinched a memorandum of understanding on Jan. 19 to join hands in promoting various programs such as essay contests and internships.

Under the deal, HUFS and The Korea Times will share English-related contents, and jointly host a national essay contest.

The English news organization also plans to provide HUFS students with internships and field-trip opportunities.

HUFS President Kim In-chul said he hopes the agreement, clinched by the two organizations that stand at the forefront of the globalization, will help in fostering talented students.

Lee Chang-sup, president of The Korea Times, echoed the view by highlighting the importance of English newspapers in the language education, adding the deal will also help in improving English skills of the students.
