6th National University Russian Debate Competition held at HUFS
The Institute of Russian Studies under Hankuk University of Foreign Studies kicked off the 6th National University Russian Debate Competition at the Seoul Campus on May 13, 2016.
The annual event, first kicked off in 2011, aims to foster and support young students who have visions of doing Russia-related works in the future.
The event, co-hosted by the Russian Embassy in Seoul, grabbed the nation-wide attention.
The number of participating students and schools has been gradually increasing, reflecting the stronger reputation of the annual event as the hub of communications among students studying Russian.
Students from Suwon Academy of World Languages were invited as special guests. The organizers also provided opportunities for participants to share ideas with professors.
The participants were divided into two groups to induce even students with less than three semesters of studies to participate.
In this year's event, 34 students from 15 universities discussed different topics such as "What do you think of Anna from Anna Karenina," or "What is your opinion on artificial intelligence."
The grand prize was the round-trip ticket to Moscow, as well as short-term courses at the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.
The gold prize winner was given a round-trip ticket to Moscow, as well as the language course at Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University.
Samsung Electronics Co., Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Korea Russia Business Center, and Pushkin House also provided grants and prizes to benefit all participants.
