HUFS holds the 43rd HIMUN General Assembly
The 43rd HUFS International Model United Nations (HIMUN) General Assembly was held with much fanfare at COEX Auditorium in Seoul on August 10, 2019.
Under the theme of “Fourth Industrial Revolution: Searching for New Digital Trade Standards,” this year’s HIMUN General Assembly aimed at raising understanding of the rapidly evolving Fourth Industrial Revolution and offering students, the leaders of the future, an opportunity to discuss proactive responses to subsequent changes in the international order.
HIMUN, hosted annually by HUFS HIMUN students, drew about 1,000 audience members this year. Adhering to the basic principles and working methods of the UN, HIMUN offered interpretation services in six official UN languages by a relay system, allowing participants to engage in vivid debates.
This year’s HIMUN General Assembly was highlighted by the presence of numerous distinguished guests: HUFS Seoul Campus Vice President Yoon Seok-Man; HUFS Alumni Association President Min Dong-Seok; HUFS Dean of Student Affairs and Human Resources Development Kim Bong-Chul; HUFS Dean of International Affairs Oh Jong-Jin; Julien Deruffe, French Charge d'Affaires in Seoul; Sripriya Ranganathan, Indian Ambassador to Korea; Baasanjav Ganbold, Director of the UN ESCAP East and North-East Office; and Oh Ju-Won, Secretary Director of Hyunma Education Foundation.
HIMUN was launched in 1958 under the theme of United Nations disarmament as Korea’s first model United Nations program and platform for academic conferences in foreign languages. Since then, it has served as an annual venue for young students from around the world under the guidance of the UN basic principles.
