HUFS Emeritus Professor Park Hee-kwon received the 2020 Sejong Book Award for his book Shall We Negotiate: an Introduction to Global Negotiation in the philosophy/psychology/ethics category.
The book, published in November, 2019, focuses on negotiation skills as one of the most important success factors in our lives. According to the book, the world we live in is a giant negotiation table and whether we like it or not, we experience various conflicts at home, school, work, and society. Depending on how we resolve such conflicts determines our way of life, so negotiation abilities are essential life skills.
Emeritus Professor Park Hee-gwon distinguished himself as a global negotiator while working as a diplomat for 39 years, participating in global negotiation tables related to economy, security, international law, and disarmament. After passing the Foreign Service Exam in 1979, he worked as a councilor for the UN, a foreign affairs minister in Geneva, a deputy director general for the Korean Foreign Ministry, a director of bureau, an adjunct ambassador for the UN, an ambassador in Peru, an ambassador in Spain, and commissioner for the UNWTO.
