HUFS Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (Director Kim Si-hong) hosted the Model European Union 2020 with the EU Centres of Korea University and Yonsei University at the Obama Hall on Oct. 30.
Due to COVID-19, only the debate participants and adjudicators were present at the event, which was held in the format of the Council of Ministers. Undergraduate and graduate students from 16 domestic and foreign universities participated in the debate on the issue of climate change.
At the opening ceremony, EU Centre Director Kim Si-hong gave a welcoming speech followed by a keynote speech by Maria Castillo Fernandez, the newly-appointed Ambassador to the EU Delegation to Korea.
Climate change was the topic of the debate, which emulated the format of the Council of Ministers whereby the opinions of the ministers representing the member nations were collected and adjusted for a mock press conference with the press corps for publicity purposes.
At the closing ceremony, HUFS President Kim In-chul and John Bogaerts, the Deputy Ambassador to the EU Delegation to Korea, gave congratulatory speeches, followed by an awards ceremony.
