■ HUFS Alumni Association Holds the “Former Prime Minister Chongnong Kang Yeong-Hoon and Kim Hyo-Soo Scholarship” Award Ceremony
- Former Prime Minister Kang’s family donates KRW 100 million in scholarships to HUFS Alumni Association in accordance with his will.

HUFS Alumni Association held the Former Prime Minister Chongnong Kang Yeong-Hoon and Kim Hyo-Soo Scholarship award ceremony at its office on the Seoul Campus on May 3, 2021 (Mon). Commemorating the 5th anniversary of his death this year, his children provided KRW 100 million in scholarships to HUFS Alumni Association on April 20, 2021, to fulfill the wishes of the late Mr. Kang and his wife Kim Hyo-Soo.
■ HUFS Alumnus Bahn Byung-Ryul Donates KRW 100 Million to the HUFS Fund
HUFS Alumnus Bahn Byung-Ryul (English, entrance class of ‘55), President of the Bahn Family Foundation, generously donated KRW 100 million to the HUFS Fund for global talent cultivation on May 10, 2021 (Mon.).

President Bahn said, “I hope this donation will help the development of my alma mater and its future talent cultivation.” Expressing his wish that HUFS will establish itself as a global think tank that can lead foreign studies and interdisciplinary education, he asked HUFS to fulfill its mission and responsibilities to help students pursue and realize their dreams beyond borders.
Extending his gratitude to President Bahn for his strong sense of connection to HUFS and young students, HUFS President Kim In-Chul pledged that the donation will be used to explore new areas of study to meet the needs of the knowledge-based society in this era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and share its academic accomplishments, thus contributing to the development of the society.
On the same day, HUFS devoted a lecture room to President Bahn as a token of appreciation for his donation.
■ HUFS Alumnus Jung Hyun-Gyu Donates 200,000 Face Masks
HUFS alumnus Jung Hyun-Gyu (Chinese, entrance class of ‘77), President of BioPlus, visited HUFS and provided 200,000 face masks to HUFS on May 12, 2021 (Wed.).

Donating the masks, President Jung said, “I hope that my donation will help the members of the HUFS community overcome the threats and difficulties posed by the coronavirus pandemic.” In response, HUFS President Kim In-Chul said, “I am grateful to you for extending a helping hand in this time of difficulties. We will use these masks to safeguard our faculty, staff and students from the hazards of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
President Jung runs BioPlus, a hyaluronic acid manufacturer and exporter utilizing its exclusive technology. BioPlus exports cosmetic ingredients and is taking part in a project to set up a bio-research center and a general cosmetic surgery hospital in Hainan, China, staying at the forefront of the global beauty market.
■ HUFS Department of Russian Provides the 2021 Scholarships for Young HUFS Students
HUFS Department of Russian held the 2021 Young Russian Student Scholarships Award Ceremony on May 18, 2021. Introduced to commemorate HUFS alumnus Shin Dong-Ik (entrance class of ‘88), the scholarships were presented to HUFS student Hong Ju-Hee (entrance class of 2019).

The scholarship recipient said, “It is a great honor for me to receive this scholarship, which has fulfilled the dreams of the student council of the Department of Russian. I hope that many more students will be able to make meaningful memories within the council and spread the name of our department.”
Student Council President Lee Seung-Woo said, “Through talks with our alumni on the student council, I felt a strong sense of belonging to, and responsibility for, the HUFS student body and was able to reflect on its future directions. I will continue to make more efforts for the development of our department and the protection of the rights of other students.”
HUFS Alumnus Jung Won-Rak, who joined in the scholarships award ceremony as a former scholarship beneficiary, stated, “I think that this scholarship helps us pass on our long-cherished values to young students.” He also described the scholarships as a small token of encouragement provided to young students studying Russian for the development of the department.
■ HUFS Alumnus Huh Dong-Won Receives an HUFS Plaque of Appreciation
HUFS held a ceremony to present a plaque of appreciation to its alumnus Huh Dong-Won (Law, entrance class of ‘89), President of the Asia Exchange Association, on June 4, 2021 (Fri.).

HUFS Alumnus Huh provided HUFS with 3,000 Bluetooth earphones, which have been distributed and provided a great relief to the class of 2020, whose campus life was hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak. Out of gratitude for his donation, HUFS awarded him a plaque of appreciation.
President Huh has been running the Asia Exchange Association since 2005. Established as a not-for-profit entity under the umbrella of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association has carried out a range of economic, social, cultural and academic exchange programs with numerous Asian nations. HUFS also operates the Global Volunteer Corps each year in partnership with the Association.
