■ Onycom President Yang In-Jip takes office as the 33rd President of HUFS Alumni Association
On July 5, 2021, HUFS held a ceremony to send off the outgoing president of HUFS Alumni Association and welcome the new president at the Fila Acushent Hall of the Smart Library. At the ceremony, Onycom President Yang In-Jip took office as the 33rd President of HUFS Alumni Association.

Incoming President Yang said in his inauguration remarks, “It is truly an honor and also a tremendous responsibility for me to take office as the head of our Alumni Association. I will carry out my presidency by staying true to ‘Keep on a big road with a right mind’, which is the philosophy of Ph.D. Kim Heung-Bae, the founding father of Dongwon Educational Foundation.” He also added, “Our Alumni Association is more than a friendly society. As it has a responsibility to play a significant role in advancing our institution, we need to be able to draw the full capacities of our 170,000 alumni to our organization.”
He went on to say, “under my two promises of ‘Financially Sound Alumni Association’ and ‘Stronger Alumni Information Network’, I will prioritize bolstering our financial status with all possible efforts and creating a surplus through rigorous budget execution. I will also come up with a solution to integrate some 120 worldwide HUFS alumni units into this Alumni Association.”
■ HUFS Dept. of Italian holds the 2021 Fall Semester scholarship award ceremony
The Department of Italian in the HUFS College of Occidental Languages (Dean Choi Byung-Jin) held the 2021 Fall Semester scholarship award ceremony on September 3, 2021.

At the ceremony, the Department handed out Jeon Seong-Cheol scholarships to Uh Seung-Min (Entry Class of ’17), Choi Ye-In (Entry Class of ’18), Sung Si-Hyun (Entry Class of ’20), and Kim Na-Yeon (Entry Class of ’21) as well as its 50th anniversary scholarships to Park Sung-Jun (Entry Class of ’20) and Toscano Suji (Entry Class of ’21).
■ HUFS Div. of International Studies holds the 2021 Fall Semester Professor Kim Bong-Chul Scholarship award ceremony
On September 17, 2021, HUFS Division of International Studies (Chair Lee Seung-Rae) held the 2021 Fall Semester Professor Kim Bong-Chul Scholarship award ceremony online. At the ceremony, it presented scholarships to Yang Ha-Eun (Entry Class of ’19) and Ham Hyo-Rim (Entry Class of ’21), both of whom were selected as recipients of the Professor Kim Bong-Chul Scholarship

The scholarships are funded from the KRW 100 million donation made by Professor Kim of the Division of International Studies and will be handed out to students in the Division each semester.
■ Dept. of Portuguese holds the 2021 Fall Semester scholarships award ceremony
The Department of Portuguese (Chair Im So-Ra) in the HUFS College of Occidental Languages held a ceremony to present 2021 Fall Semester Dept. of Portuguese Alumni Scholarships on October 1, 2021. The ceremony was attended by President Choi Dong-Seong and Vice President Jung Jae-Min of the Department of Portuguese Alumni, Chair Professor Im So-Ra of the Department, and Professor Gwon Gi-Soo.

At the event, the Department presented full-tuition scholarships for the semester to two students, Yoon Tae-Won (Entry Class of ’18) and Kim Young-Hwa (Entry Class of ’19), for their enthusiastic service on its student counsel and subsequent contribution to its development.
Founded in April 2014, the Scholarships have been funded by three rounds of donations made by alumni and professors of Department of Portuguese. The Department has increased the amount of this semester’s scholarships to inspire students who have pursued their studies to accomplish their academic goals amid COVID-19 constraints.
