A team of undergraduate and graduate students from the HUFS Department of Biomedical Engineering (Chair Goh Yoon-Hee) won the third prize at PAIP 2021 AI Grand Challenge: Perineural Invasion in Multiple Organ Cancer. The PAIP Challenge is an international medical AI contest organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and hosted by the Seoul National University Hospital, the Korea University Medicine, and Seoul National University. Under the academic guidance of Professor Nam Yoon-Ho, Team AMILAB consists of HUFS students Baek Da-Young, Yoo Hwan-Seung, Lee Ga-Won, Lee Jun-Hyuk, and Jang Seung-Woon.

This year’s mission was to detect perineural invasion from pathological images of the colon, prostate, and pancreas. A total of 482 contestants across the world participated with their own AI model to complete the mission, competing against one another in the field of AI-powered medical technology.

Professor Goh Yoon-Hee, Chair of the HUFS Department of Biomedical Engineering, said, “Our team members worked hard to prepare for the competition. It is really pleasing to see that they brought us this good news, the third prize at this international medical competition. I hope that they will continue their hard work to show off their strength in the medical AI field.”
