HUFS Department of Political Science and Diplomacy (Chair Yoo Hyun-Joo) stated that its students joined the 2022 Future Political Leaders’ Parliamentary Training Program hosted by the National Assembly Secretariat (General Secretary Lee Chun-Seok) for three days from June 27 to 29, 2022 (Monday through Wednesday), and won the highest honor at the final round of the debate contest held under the title “Youth: The Power That Turns the Politics of Korea Upside Down”.

Held at the National Assembly Training Center in Goseong, this year’s program marked its 5th anniversary since launching in 2017 to nurture young political leaders. The program kicked off with the Center’s own training program and offered various learning opportunities, including on-site special lectures, a debate contest, group discussions, and field trips. 

The debate contest, entitled “Youth: The Power That Turns the Politics of Korea Upside Down”, was participated in by 10 teams. In the final round, a heated debate took place under the sub-topic of “How to Strike a Balance Between Youth Politics and Gender Politics”. In the group discussion “Can Youth Change Korean Politics?”, the participating students navigated toward a solution through debates and presentations. The students of the HUFS Department of Political Science and Diplomacy were awarded the highest prize in the final round of debate by the judging panel consisting of the president of the Parliamentary Training Office, professors from the participating universities, and professors from the National Assembly Training Center.
