HUFS Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation (Dean Lim Hyang-Ok, GSIT) offered simultaneous interpretation for the 20th Korean Presidential Inauguration Ceremony held in the front garden of the National Assembly on May 10, 2022 (Tuesday). Long recognized as the nation’s No. 1 interpretation and translation education institution, HUFS GSIT provided simultaneous interpretation in six different languages (English, Japanese, Russian, French, and Arabic) for the national event.
Established in 1979 as the nation’s first interpretation and translation education institute and having served as the sole provider of dedicated simultaneous interpretation for all of the nation’s presidential inauguration ceremonies, except for the 19th presidential inauguration that went without an official ceremony, HUFS GSIT has provided interpretation and translation services for the nation’s important events through its Center for Interpreting and Translation. In 2005, it became Asia’s first university to gain membership in CIUTI, which is the world’s association of leading university institutes with interpretation and translation programs, once again proving its academic excellence on the global stage.
The simultaneous interpretation services for the 20th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony were carried out by English interpreters (HUFS Professor Lee Joo-Yeon and Interpreter Kim Hyun-Jung), Chinese interpreters (HUFS Professors Kim Jin-Ah and Hwang Ji-Yeon), Japanese interpreters (HUFS Professors Kim Han-Sik and Park Mi-Jung), Russian Interpreters (HUFS Professors Bang Gyo-Young and Park In-Nah), French interpreters (HUFS Professor Pyun Hye-Won and Interpreter Kim Hyo-Tak), and Arabic interpreters (HUFS Professors Gwak Sun-Rye and Cho Jung-Min).
