■ HUFS dedicates a lecture hall in honor of Kim Se-Won, Honorary President of the HUFS Alumnae Association
On June 16, 2023 (Friday), HUFS held a ceremony to dedicate Lecture Hall #408 in the Humanities Building of the Seoul Campus to honor Kim Se-Won (French, entry class of ’63), Honorary President of the HUFS Alumnae Association. Moderated by Oh Jong-Jin, Dean of External Development, the ceremony was organized to extend appreciation to Honorary President Kim for donating KRW 100 million to the HUFS Development Fund. Having built her career as a broadcast presenter, she served as the director of Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) and also the inaugural president of the HUFS Alumnae Association.

During the event, HUFS President Park Jeong-Woon conveyed his appreciation for her generous contribution of KRW 100 million toward the university’s development, commending her leadership in guiding the women’s alumni association to becoming one of the best alumni associations over the past two decades and acknowledging her unwavering love and support for her alma mater.
In return, she expressed her thanks by saying, “The top three highlights of my life were choosing HUFS, dedicating myself to a career in broadcasting, and establishing the HUFS Alumnae Association.” She further extended her gratitude to her alma mater for being the foundation of her achievements and extended her heartfelt wishes for its ongoing progress and growth.
■ HUFS Alumni Professors’ Association delivers scholarships for 2023 Spring Semester
On June 12, 2023 (Monday), the HUFS Alumni Professors’ Association (President Kim Si-Hong) held a ceremony to present scholarship certificates for the spring semester of 2023 at the Allegro Room of InterContinental Seoul, COEX.

At the ceremony held on the sidelines of the general meeting of the faculty association, a total of six undergraduate and graduate students were named recipients of KRW 1.5 million scholarships for this semester. The scholarship recipients are Lee Eung-Joo (KFL graduate course), Kim Da-Hee (International Studies), Kim Hyo-Jeong (Chinese Foreign Affairs and Commerce), Yoo Soo-Jeong (Chemistry), Lee Tae-Hwa (GBT Division), and Jeong Ryoon-Oh (Italian).
■ Professor Lee Nan-Ah of the Department of Turkish and Azerbaijani and President Chun Bu-Gi of the Department’s Alumni Association donate for the development of HUFS
On May 25, 2023 (Thursday), Professor Lee Nan-Ah of the Department of Turkish and Azerbaijani (entry class of ’84) and President Chun Bu-Gi (entry class of ’91) of the Department’s Alumni Association each donated KRW 10 million to the HUFS Development Fund.

Professor Lee said, “I hope to aid the juniors of my alma mater in pioneering their future in a small way, and I trust that the support and encouragement from the seniors will guide them through the numerous challenges they encounter in their studies and careers.” President Chun also expressed his wishes, saying, “After graduation, having an alma mater that felt like home and classmates who were like siblings gave me immense strength. My wish is that more alumni will demonstrate interest in the advancement of their alma mater and lend support to the younger generation.”
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Department of Turkish and Azerbaijani, which originated as the Department of Turkish in 1973 and later evolved into its present form as the Department of Turkish and Azerbaijani Studies in 2008. The two donors expressed their aspiration that their donations will be used for the Department’s growth and the well-being of its students, including events to commemorate the Department’s remarkable 50-year journey.
■ Department of German holds the 2023 German Homecoming Day and the Choi Eon-Do Scholarship award ceremony
On May 18, 2023 (Thursday), the HUFS Department of German (Chair Kim Hyung-Rae) held the 2023 German Homecoming Day at the Office of the Chair in the Main Building on the Seoul Campus.

The Homecoming Day marked the first post-COVID-19 reunion that brought together President Huh So-Jeong (German, entry class of ’85) of the Department’s Alumni Association, numerous alumni, and students. The event also featured a scholarship award ceremony.
Established with an endowment of around KRW 100 million by Choi Eon-Do (German, entry class of ’59), President of the HUFS New York Alumni Association, the Choi Eon-Do Scholarship is awarded annually by the Department of German to students with different qualifying criteria.
■Im Chang-Il, President of Shinwoo CS, donates KRW 100 million for the advancement of HUFS
On May 17, 2023 (Wednesday), President Im Chang-Il (Malay-Indonesian, entry class of ’71) contributed KRW 100 million to the HUFS Development Fund.

President Im said, “From the moment that I took my first steps into society as an office worker, HUFS has been a great source of strength for me. It is more than a place to learn languages. At HUFS, I acquired a pioneering spirit and a global perspective.” He added, “As an alumnus, witnessing the growth of my alma mater brings me immense joy, and I am delighted to be able to contribute to the development of my juniors in any way possible.”
In response, HUFS President Park Jeong-Woon said, “We express our heartfelt thanks to President Im for his generous contribution, benefiting our juniors. We are committed to fostering talents with utmost dedication, ensuring that President Im’s entrepreneurial spirit and personal integrity resonate throughout the entire HUFS community.”
■ Dongwon Group Leadership Scholarship Foundation holds “Meet the Scholars” and the 2023 Spring Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony
On May 11, 2023 (Thursday), the HUFS Office of Student Affairs and Human Resource Development (Dean Kim Min-Jeong) held the “Meet the Scholars” event and the 2023 Spring Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony at Cultural Shop IMUN 107 on the Seoul Campus.

In 2007, Dongwon Group donated KRW 1 billion and established the Dongwon Group Leadership Scholarship Foundation to offer scholarships so that HUFS students could grow into outstanding talents instilled with the spirit of service, strong self-worth, and a relentless drive for success who can contribute to both national and social development.
During the meeting event, the scholars exchanged their volunteer experiences and college success stories. They also proposed ideas to enhance networking opportunities for current and graduating scholars in the future, while discussing strategies to make meaningful contributions to society through group volunteer activities..
■ HUFS delivers the 2023 Cheongnong Former Prime Minister Gang Yeong-Hoon and Kim Hyo-Soo Scholarship
On May 8, 2023 (Monday), HUFS held the 3rd Cheongnong Former Prime Minister Gang Yeong-Hoon and Kim Hyo-Soo Scholarship award ceremony at the Lee Deok-Sun Conference Room of the Main Building on the Seoul Campus.

Under the 10-year scholarship program launched in 2021, a KRW 5 million scholarship is delivered to one male and one female student each year, having produced a total of six scholars so far. The annual award ceremony is held in May in memory of Former Prime Minister Gang Yeong-Hoon’s death.
This year, Shin Dong-Jae (Business Administration, entry class of ’19) and Shin Seo-Hyeon (EICC, entry class of ’22) won the scholarship for their outstanding academic performance and their dedication to achieving their respective career paths of planning and finance and interpretation.
