The HUFS English debate club HUFS Debate Society (HDS) won the United Asian Debate Championships (UADC) in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) League held from June 16 to 18 (Friday to Sunday) and June 24 to 25 (Saturday to Sunday), 2023. In 2021, when UADC was established, HDS achieved a remarkable victory as the first Northeast Asian team to win the EFL League.

Representing HUFS, the central club HDS joined the competition with a team featuring students Pyeon Hae-Seong (Division of International Studies), Kim Yeon-Soo (School of English for Interpretation and Translation), and Yoon Seok-Jin (English Language Education). Student Yoon Seok-Jin, in particular, regained the honor of winning the EFL League championship after winning the prestigious title in 2021.
Additionally, students Pyeon Hae-Seong and Kim Yeon-Soo showcased their remarkable teamwork as partners at the National College Student English Debate Competition held from January 27 to 29, 2023 (Friday to Sunday) and clinched the overall championship. This victory holds much significance as it marks the first time since the championship’s launch in 2013 that HUFS's English debate club has emerged triumphant in the competition.
The National College Student English Debate Competition, hosted by the National College Student English Debate Federation, is held biannually, in both the first and second half of the year. With the participation of 14 universities, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University, it is the most prestigious event among domestic English debate competitions.
